About POISE Foundation's Scholarships
Our Scholarship Programs are funded through various endowed scholarship funds of the Foundation. Support can be awarded to two year and four year universities, post secondary technical and trade schools, and limited funding for graduate studies. Many of our scholarship funds are based on donors restrictions such as student’s major, institution, grade point average, etc.
Mrs. Diamond C. Quinichett
Scholarship received: The Anthony S. Fountain and Alissa Fountain-Burse Scholarship
Amount awarded: $2,000
Degree: Masters
Major: Educational Leadership (Certification areas of interest: Elementary, middle and secondary education)
Attending: Queens University of Charlotte
Extracurricular: as an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Diamond volunteers to be of service to young girls in the Charlotte, NC area and to all mankind.
Diamond said “The passion that I have as an educator for my students is unlike anything a “job” can provide. Everything I have learned in my educational career has gotten me to where I am today and I look forward to using my new certification to continue positively impacting my community.”
Ms. Jona “LaMiche” D. Hodges
Scholarship received: The Anthony S. Fountain and Alissa Fountain-Burse Scholarship
Amount awarded: $2,000
Degree: Masters
Major: M.A.T. English (Certification area of interest: secondary education)
Attending: South Carolina State University
Extracurricular: Jona was recently elected President for the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW) Columbia, SC chapter.
Jona said “Parental involvement is a key factor in the academic success of a child. Some parents may be active in the education process. However, for various reasons, there are far too many parents who do not display interest in their children's education. As a public-schoolteacher, I will develop relationships with all parents and guardians of my students. I believe that it is important for all parents to feel comfortable and welcomed at their children's school.”
Isabel “Izzy” Heistand
Scholarship received: The Anthony S. Fountain and Alissa Fountain-Burse Scholarship
Amount awarded: $2,000
Degree: Bachelors
Major: Applied Developmental Psychology (Certification: Elementary Education)
Attending: University of Pittsburgh School of Education
Extracurricular: as part of her pre-student teaching life skills practicum at The Children's Institute in Pittsburgh, Izzy observed and implemented the mentor teacher’s strategies for supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Izzy said “Through my teaching practicum in Pittsburgh public schools, I have witnessed educators struggle with three challenges: funding, developing diverse lessons from standardized curriculum, and racial disparities and prejudice. Despite the many challenges I am excited and hopeful for my future as a teacher!”
