African American Leadership Association

This organization was started by Bernadette Turner and Darcel Madkins to address issues relevant to current and future African American leaders within the Pittsburgh Community. It is a member based organization dedicated to providing African Americans and minorities with: exposure, enrichment, opportunities and access to leadership positions.

Alliance for Police Accountability

The APA is a grassroots organization dedicated to criminal justice reform, specializing in bettering community and police relations through advocacy, education, and policy. We partner regionally and nationally on various social justice issues, including campaigns focused on protocol for interacting/responding to the police, racism, political engagement, and violence. APA ENSURES THE VOICES OF THE PEOPLE ARE HEARD and that the community is included in the making of decisions that affect them. We host conversations in which community members, law enforcement, and local politicians have candid dialogue about the state of their community focusing on a plan to ensure a safe and healthy quality of life for all.

The Alliance for Police Accountability (APA) is committed to putting an end to racial profiling and police brutality. We are committed to putting an end to street violence by eradicating concentrated poverty. We are committed to take action against any form of injustice within the criminal justice system, creating necessary reform and reversing the war on drugs. The APA is an alliance of diverse organizations and individuals working for justice. We demand that those responsible for criminal justice and law enforcement be held accountable.

BME - Freedom Indeed

This fund was established in 2018 to support the Freedom Indeed Project created by Cornell Jones with initial funding through BME Genius award. This program is designed to train ex-offender men and women on how to learn every position in the internet radio field.

District 19

This fund was established in 2014 by the office of Representative Jake Wheatley for District 19 of the Commonwealth of PA to support an annual event that introduces and teaches concepts that promote a healthy, sustainable lifestyle which includes physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and economic health. This weekend is designed to focus on how the community can make simple changes in their everyday lifestyle to live healthier and be more active.

Eat Initiative

This Fund was established in 2018 to assist marginalized people trapped in food deserts. These people suffer from a lack of access to fresh food, and many do not know how to prepare new meals in the most nutritious and cost-efficient ways for their families. The program will create partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations and offer wellness classes and meal preparation workshops for people living at or below poverty.

Forge Global

Landless Peoples Alliance

This fund was created in 2018 by the Landless Peoples Alliance to support the The Pittsburgh Tenant Union Project focusing on increasing and maintaining the supply of homes affordable for poor families, while improving the quality of life for renters and their communities.

My Brothers Keeper

Established in 2018 by the City of Pittsburgh and the County of Allegheny to support the work of the My Brother’s Keeper Initiative focused on the well-being of the African American child and family first and foremost. The Six Milestones in the MBK Framework refer to key developmental inflection points from early childhood through successful post-secondary matriculation and career attainment.

Philadelphia Black Giving Circle

Established in 2017 by the Founding Members of The Philadelphia Black Giving Circle. Its purpose is to assist charitable organizations in Philadelphia that support the city’s black community. This fund supports the Giving Circle's grants to eligible organizations.

Pittsburgh College Access Alliance

Pittsburgh Peace and Justice Initiative

This partnership supports an initiative of the Pittsburgh Black Elected Officials Coalition (PBEOC), for a project to develop a Public Policy Agenda impacting Pittsburgh’s African American community.  The Project focuses on creating a partnership with Pittsburgh’s African-American communities and State, County and Local Governments to increase public safety, improve the quality of life and ensure the delivery of fair and impartial public safety services.

Sankofa Fund of Southwest PA

The Sankofa Fund of Southwest PA (the Sankofa Fund) is a giving circle created in 2006 consisting of a group of individual African American philanthropist who have joined together to strategically invest their time, talent and resources towards the issues and organizations determined by the circle.

Share 2020 Conference

Established in 2020 by the Share Committee to focus on advancing diverse vendor knowledge of business opportunities across participating corporations through matchmaking sessions.

Strong Mom Strong Baby

Established in 2019 by Denny Civic Solutions to support the StrongMomStrongBaby Campaign which focuses on creating a pathway to services for mothers with postpartum depression and their infants.

The Advanced Leadership Initiative

Created in 2017 by Evan Frazier, this fund supports the operational expenses of the The Advanced Leadership Initiative which focuses on promoting and developing African American Executives in the Greater Pittsburgh Region.

Unfinished Business

Established in August 2019 by Dr. Stephanie Bodie as a project to Preserve the History from the Great Migration to Black Lives Matter and the Pittsburgh Intersection.
